Geo Location: Rajasthan is located in northwestern India, bounded by Pakistan to the west and northwest, and shares internal borders with the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Rajasthan with a land area of 3,42,239 sq. km, is the largest state in India geographically. In fact Rajasthan’s area is similar to that of Western countries like Italy (3,01,200 sq. km.), Norway (3,24,200 sq. km) and Poland (3, 12,600 sq. km.).

The geography of Rajasthan is diverse and is characterised by rolling sand dunes, fertile plains, rocky rolling land and some forested areas. A large part of the state of Rajasthan is dry and it contains India’s largest desert, the Thar Desert, which is known as “Maru-Kantar”. Only 9.36% of the total geographical area is under forest vegetation.
